This 1968 Plymouth Road Runner is a red-over-black coupe powered by a replacement 440ci V8 mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Additional equipment includes three two-barrel carburetors, an Air Grabber intake system, Weld Racing 15″ wheels, a black hood, a Hurst pistol-grip shifter, and a push-button AM radio.
The black hood has twin intakes and Hemi badging, and other exterior equipment includes chrome bumpers, round side-marker lights, Road Runner badging, dual side mirrors, pop-out rear quarter windows, and a dual exhaust system with oblong tailpipes.
Weld Racing 15″ five-spoke wheels wear 235/70 Mastercraft Avenger G/T tires up front and 275/60 Goodyear Eagle GTII tires at the rear. Braking is handled by unassisted four-wheel drums.
The front and rear bench seats are upholstered in black and complemented by a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. Equipment includes a Hurst pistol-grip shifter, “Hurst Equipped” door-panel badges, bright doorsill guards, front headrests, lap belts, and a Solid State by Plymouth push-button AM radio. The headliner is sagging in areas. Cool It Thermo-Tec sound-deadening material is visible in the trunk compartment.
The steering wheel exhibits wear and fronts a 120-mph speedometer flanked by readouts for alternator status, fuel level, and coolant temperature. Two aftermarket auxiliary gauges are positioned beneath the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 61k miles, approximately 60 of which have been added by the selling dealer. Total mileage is unknown.
The 440ci V8 was installed under prior ownership. It is equipped with three two-barrel carburetors in addition to an Air Grabber intake system, an Edelbrock intake manifold, and “440 Six Pack” markings on the air cleaner as well as an aluminum radiator and an Accel ignition coil.
